This morning, I left Vila Kastriotet-Hotel at 5:30 and rode about 43 miles to Tiranë. It took me about four and half hours with a rest stop for a soft drink at a gas station.
I was finally honked at by an Albanian driver when I was trying to navigate a roundabout. I guess I was just supposed to cut in rather than wait for the cars to go past. In any case, the drivers in Eastern Europe have been very patient with me and this was certainly an exception.
I arrived at the Mosaic Home hostel in Tiranë a little before 10 AM and waited until 1 PM to check in. After settling down and taking a shower, I went on the hunt for some ramen since I haven’t had any Asian food in a while.
The first ramen restaurant I went to was 30 minutes away by walking. I was disappointed to find out that the ramen restaurant only offered instant ramen that the customer had to cook. It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer tried to sell his make-your-own-pizza idea. I didn’t want to eat instant ramen so I only bought a boba tea there.
I walked along the lake in the Tirana Lake Park before finding another noodle shop called Kungfu Noodle Bar. This time, I had some delicious noodles.
I’m back at the hostel now. Realistically, I think Tiranë is only worth two or three days of exploration. Since I have plenty of time before getting to Greece on August 13 I plan on staying in Tiranë for about 5 or 6 days before moving on to Durrës.
