Yesterday after writing my blog post, I checked out of the Schrott Bed and Beer hostel and went to Rebelbean Vlněna for a cappuccino and a pastry before I started my ride out of Brno.
The first part of my ride was mainly on a bicycle path, which I enjoyed very much. The farther I was away from the city the prettier the landscape became with the large farmlands. I passed by some corn and wheat fields and even took a break at a rest stop on the edge of one.
After riding 20 miles, I had a Pad Thai lunch at Asijské Bistro Beo An in the town of Hustopeče. Surprisingly, all the Asian meals I’ve had in Czechia have been good. I was in the restaurant for about an hour, eating then resting. It was difficult to get going again since I was so comfortable.
For the rest of the ride, I rode on the service road that’s parallel to the main highway. There weren’t many hills, but there were more cars than I would have liked, at least the road was smooth without much of a debris on the shoulders. Even when there wasn’t a shoulder, the cars and trucks gave me plenty of space when passing. I appreciated that.
I arrived at Centrum Ubytování Břeclav hostel before 2 PM. After checking in, I relaxed and took a shower.
On the internet, I learned that Lael Wilcox, an endurance cyclist, started her around the world record breaking trip not too long ago. She’s aiming to average 240 miles per day! I’m having trouble reaching 40. I can’t compare with her since I need my 11 hours of sleep per night. Plus, the goal of my trip isn’t to break records, it’s to have fun and enjoy myself.
I decided to walk around the town of Břeclav and get a doner kebab for dinner. I also stopped by an Albert grocery store to buy some snacks for the road. I slept soon after I came back to the hostel.
Eleven hours later, I’m awake and fresh. Today will be my longest riding day. I will cycle 44 miles to Vysoká pri Morave in Slovakia and stay at a Warmshowers host’s place. The host, Juraj, told me I should arrive around 4 PM. I have plenty of time to get there.
