Day 7: Olomouc to Vyskov
Yesterday morning after a cappuccino and a pastry at the Spot Coffee and Bar, I started my ride from Olomouc to Vyskov.
A quick note on the name of the town Vyskov. Google Maps has it as Vyskov, but the signs say Vyškov. I’ve been using Google Maps locations since I started my bike tour so I will stick with Vyskov.
The day was cloudy with lower temperatures than the days before. I thought it would be too cold, but after pedaling for a while my body warmed up.
I reached the town of Prostějov around 10 AM and the rain started as soon as I arrived. I decided to wait out the rain in this town so I had an early lunch at VietHoshi Restaurant.
Sitting inside the restaurant and watching the rain, I realized that I’ve been very spoiled while on my bike tour. Every meal I’ve had was at a restaurant and every night, except for the first night, I’ve slept in hotels or guesthouses. This is truly luxurious and I felt very fortunate despite the rain outside.
After lunch, I waited for another half an hour or so but the rain didn’t seem to die down. I decided to keep going.
The road to Vyskov was like a ribbon, up and down, up and down. As soon as I thought there would be no more hills, then the road surprised me with another one. Luckily, this road was a service road that went parallel to a highway and there was less traffic.
Around 2 PM and after about 28 miles of riding, I arrived at my guesthouse for the night, Penzion Sirius Vyškov. The lady was very nice and spoke excellent English. I was able to store my bicycle in a storage shed so it avoided the rain.
I spent the rest of the afternoon doing some administration work. I’m surprised that no Warmshowers hosts were able to host me at the next big city, Brno. I will have to stay at a hostel when I get there.
The rain continued in the late afternoon. I ended up walking to a restaurant in town called Radegastovna Pirát and had some really good traditional Czech dish with pork. The meat was so tender that it easily fell apart. The restaurant seemed to be very popular because every table was reserved in advance. I was lucky to have my meal there.
Soon after I came back to the guesthouse, I slept for 11 hours.
This morning, I had breakfast in the guesthouse at 7 AM. After writing this post, I will get ready and ride about 20 miles to Brno.
