So far, the guesthouses and hotels I’ve been staying at offered breakfast. The one at Habermannova Vila was no exception.
After the meal and some preparations, I left the guesthouse around 9 AM. The ride was about 35 miles in total to Olomouc, but I was able to take a rest and eat an apple at a bench in the middle of the way. I also decided to have lunch at Restaurace U Kapličky in a small village called Mezice that’s about 9 miles north of Olomouc. The meals in Czechia have been cheaper, around $15, or about 300 Czech korunas, for a main dish and a soda. Some meals are even cheaper, such as a doner kebab.
I thought I would get rained on since the forecast indicted drizzle, but it didn’t happen until nighttime. I got lucky.
Around 2 PM, I arrived at the Ubytovna Marie hostel in Olomouc. After booking my stay, I stored my bicycle in the small courtyard. I rested for about an hour before exploring the city of Olomouc.
I was surprised by the beautiful architecture in Olomouc and the city is very walkable. I visited the Upper Square, but the famous baroque Holy Trinity Column was hidden behind a scaffold. They must be doing some renovations. There is also an astronomical clock in the main square that reminded me of the one in Prague.
I walked along the main street to the Saint Wenceslas Cathedral. It’s tall and impressive, like many churches I’ve been to. I feel I’m tired of churches by now since I’ve seen so many on my travels, but for some reason I have to go into one if it looks grand.
After eating a delicious meal of Chinese dumplings at Simple Dumpl I walked back to the hostel and stayed there for the rest of the day.
There is no breakfast at the hostel so I have to go to a coffee shop to get something to eat before my ride to Vyskov, a town that’s about 28 miles southwest of Olomouc.
