Day 5: Bobrovník to Bludov
Most of the time, I feel too tired to write a blog post after riding my bicycle. I’d rather relax, listen to music, catch up on the news, and watch some YouTube videos. The next morning is when I have more energy and write my blog post for the previous day. And today is no exception.
Yesterday, I cycled about 33 miles from Bobrovník to Bludov. The most I’ve done on this trip so far. In the beginning of my ride, there was a gradual hill that seemed to go up forever. When I finally reached the top I was rewarded with a good view and wind turbines. As I always say: when there’s an uphill then there’s a downhill. Sure enough, I cruised down into the town of Hanušovice around 11:30 AM.
I was deciding whether to grab lunch in Hanušovice or continue my way toward Bludov. An old adage came to my mind: a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. It’s better to take advantage now than gamble on something that’s uncertain. So I had a huge lunch with eight chicken wings and fries at the Bistro Happy restaurant. This lunch gave me a good break and I was energized for the rest of the ride.
I arrived at the guesthouse Habermannova Vila on the south side of Bludov right before 2 PM. After storing my bicycle in the garage and checking in, I rested and took a shower.
Time seemed to go fast even when I’m not doing much. One thing that I thought recently is that a lot of life is thinking and rethinking. At least for me, I tend to think too much.
For example, when I was on Reddit yesterday, I saw a post about a guy who bicycled from the UK to Singapore. His route map made me realize that if I can get a visa to China I could bicycle all the way to my childhood home in Beijing from Europe. I’ll have to see what happens in the next couple of months, but it’s now an option when I reach Athens, Greece.
The area that I’m cycling through is called Moravia. It’s a historical region in eastern Czechia that’s famous for its rolling vineyards, castles, and folklore. I’ll be cycling to the city of Olomouc today and there’s a UNESCO site called the Holy Trinity Column that I want to see.
I haven’t booked any place to stay yet, but I had sent some Warmshowers requests. So far, no hosts. I think I will ride to the city and look for a hostel that will take in a bicycle. There are two hostels in Olomouc so I think I should be ok.
