Yesterday morning, I left Villa Zdrojowa guesthouse in Otmuchów and headed for Czechia. I had to Google why some people call the Czech Republic Czechia. Apparently, Czechia is the informal name and the government has been promoting it to be used as the English name. I will use the name Czechia.
I reached the Czech border about 7 miles south of Otmuchów and the hills appeared. I was able to ride up all of them while taking multiple breaks. The gear ratio on my Priority Apollo bike isn’t that good for climbing hills. If the hills were any steeper I wouldn’t be able to pedal. I was proud of myself that I didn’t walk my bike up any hills.
At some point, I noticed that my Organic Maps route merged with the EuroVelo route. I prefer the route on Organic Maps since it hasn’t brought me to any dirt roads yet.
Around noon, I reached the town of Jesenik and the first thing I did was to find a restaurant for lunch. I ended up having a pulled duck burger at Restaurace U Radnice that’s right by the town square.
I did a bit of cursory research on ChatGPT and found out that this area of Czechia has a lot of hiking trails. People also come here for skiing and mountain biking.
After lunch, I walked around the town square for a bit before I rode my bike to Na Bobrovníku, the guesthouse that’s next to a restaurant in the resort village of Bobrovník. I was able to check into my room around 2 PM. I ended up resting for a while and had pork ribs for dinner at Koliba na Bobrovníku. My total distance for the day was around 24 miles.
On Warmshowers.org, I noticed there are some hosts in the destinations that I’ll be going to in a couple of days. I sent out some requests and hope to get hosted.
I slept 10 hours last night and will have breakfast at the restaurant before I get on the road. I’ll be riding about 33 miles today to a small town called Bludov farther south.
