Day 3: Ząbkowice Śląskie to Otmuchów

After writing my previous post yesterday, I ate an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at the hotel. Soon I was ready for the road.

The route to Otmuchów had no major issues and the weather was excellent. The cooler temperature made it seem like autumn than late spring. Even though I didn’t take long breaks since there were no good places to stop, I paced myself again with water breaks every five miles.

When I was getting closer to Otmuchów, I saw a group of touring cyclists coming from the opposite direction, most of them are students I think. They were probably from some youth cycling organization.

I arrived at the Villa Zdrojowa guesthouse in Otmuchów before noon after riding about 24 miles. The owner allowed me to store my bicycle in the shed and told me to come back at 2 PM to check-in.

I walked around the town square, took some photographs, and had a shrimp salad at Restauracja Pod Zamkiem, an upscale restaurant. In fact, it was the only restaurant open in town.

It seemed like as soon as I arrived, a bunch of other bicycle riders came and they all stopped at the same restaurant for lunch or ice cream.

To spend my time, I decided to add some of my waypoints on a bicycle touring app called Rolling Around. I want to help the long distance touring community so I will be contributing to this app from now on.

After checking into the guesthouse I rested and planned my next route. I’ll be heading to Czechia the following day. Google Maps cycling directions don’t work in Czechia for some reason so I’ll rely on Organic Maps. I like Organic Maps better anyway.

For dinner, I had the Special pizza pie and a Corona beer at Pizzeria Kamienica. I usually don’t drink alcohol, but for some reason I did this time. The pizza pie was also very good and very big. I took the suggestion from the waitress and dipped the pizza into a garlic sauce. It was so good!

By the end of the day, I was a happy man: having a roof over my head, a full stomach, and in good health. Not much more I can ask for.

I went to bed around 8 PM, but woke up a couple of times, then woke up at 7:30 AM to get ready for an all-you-can-eat breakfast at the guesthouse.

I’m writing this post after a delicious breakfast. I’ll be cycling to Bobrovník, Czechia, shortly after typing this post. I booked another hotel/guesthouse there since I really dislike camping. There will also be some hills today but the distance is only about 23 miles. I have plenty of time to get there since check-in is at 3 PM.
