Day 20: Fehring to Stogovci, Slovenia

Yesterday afternoon, right after I took a shower it started to thunderstorm. Luckily, I was indoors. This is another benefit of arriving at my destination early since it tends to rain in the afternoons during this heat dome.

When the rain was over, I walked to the SPAR supermarket in town and bought some things for dinner. I ate most of them as soon as I got back. I was so full and it wasn’t even dinner time yet by most people’s schedule.

I ended up setting my tent inside the large building because there were so many flying bugs. Not sure if they were mosquitoes, but I didn’t want to take my chances. I slept around 5 PM and I never did see Christian again.

This morning, I woke up at 4:15 AM. After packing everything I left the Cambium commune an hour later.

Other than pushing my bike up a hill during the earlier part of my ride, I had no trouble riding 27 miles to the small village of Stogovci in Slovenia. Apparently, there are multiple Stogovcis in Slovenia. This one is on the northeast border.

I didn’t see any cafes or restaurants open in the early morning, but I wasn’t hungry anyway. I guess that’s the downside of riding a bicycle so early in the day. No businesses open.

The place I’m staying at is called Tree house - Ethno Holistic Village Apače. It’s not a tree house and it’s not a holistic village. I don’t know why they called it that. It’s a guesthouse.

I was lucky that there’s self check-in instructions so that when I arrived at 8 AM my room was ready. I booked a bed in a dorm. Since no one else is there I might have the room to myself.

The weather is so hot that I decided not to ride the 1.5 miles to the nearest restaurant in another village. I cooked a bag of ramen and ate some beef sticks and nut mixes for lunch. I don’t think I’ll do much of anything now that I’ve taken my shower and napped for three hours. I might just go to bed in a few hours and wake up early again for the 21 mile ride to Maribor, where I’ll be staying with a host from Couchers.
