Day 112: Münster to Rheda-Wiedenbrück

Yesterday, after having breakfast with Christian, Miriam, and Camela, I packed everything and started my ride. For the first half of my journey I followed the EuroVelo route. After a lunch in Warendorf, I followed the route on Google Maps because it’s a more direct route to Rheda-Wiedenbrück. I had plenty of time since I didn’t have to arrive at my Warmshowers host’s place until 5:30 PM.

On my way to Rheda-Wiedenbrück, I saw a protest on the road. A local cyclist told me that they are protesting a road that’s planned to be build. They feel it’ll cause more traffic and it’s a land grab from the farmers. It’s good to see democracy in action.

I arrived in Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the early afternoon. I decided to try a spaghettieis, which is spaghetti ice cream. It’s not actually spaghetti, but ice cream that’s shaped like spaghetti, and it tasted great!

Around 4:30 PM, I arrived at my Warmshowers host’s place. I pedaled 36.7 miles for the day, which is a short distance for me.

Katja, my host, had told me to hang out in the garden if I arrive early, so I relaxed there until Katja and her husband Thomas came back to the house.

After I took a shower and did laundry, Katja and Thomas had to leave for a birthday party at their neighbor’s house. I cooked a package of ramen and ate some vegetables for dinner. Around 9:30 PM, I went to bed.

I felt like I could have slept longer, but I got up at 7:30 AM because I have a long day ahead of me. I will need to ride about 60 miles to Höxter. There will be hills, too.

I also want to see if I can visit Heinz Stücke’s museum in Hövelhof. Heinz Stücke had cycled around the world for 50+ years and is one of my inspirations. Since I will be near Hövelhof and I had found the address of the museum on the internet, I wanted to see if it’s open to visitors.

Anyway, I will have breakfast with Katja and Thomas soon then I’ll hit the road.
