Day 66: Chandler to Paspébiac
Yesterday after writing my blog post, I started my ride. For most of my riding before lunch it was uneventful, except early in the morning there was black smoke came out of a house. As I cycled past it, I saw the solar panels were on fire and most likely the house got burnt.
On the road, there weren’t too many place to have lunch, but I was able to find a restaurant called Chez Ti-bert on Google Maps. I ordered a hot chicken sandwich, fries, and a root beer.
As I was eating, a woman came in. Her name is Kathleen and she works as the post master at the post office. She was fascinated by my bike tour around the world. After giving her my website, she read some of my posts and commented on many of them.
After lunch, I kept on riding. The scenery on the south side of the Gaspé Peninsula is also very beautiful, with some hills of course.
As I got closer to the town of Paspébiac I saw more shops and restaurants. I also saw many painted bicycles on the town’s street corners, which made the town very interesting.
I decided to check out the Camping Paspebiac Sur Mer, which is a campground near the beach. It was about 3:15 PM when I arrived.
After checking out the campsite, I decided to pay CA$34, or $24.24 USD, for a tent spot since there are more restaurants in Paspébiac than New Carlisle, which is only about 5 miles away.
While I was making the payment to the clerk, I met an 85 years old man named Jean-Marc and his daughter Marie. They happened to have their camp spot close to mine.
After getting a cheeseburger meal in Restaurant Maison du (M) Burger in town, I came back to the campsite and took a shower. Then I chatted with Jean-Marc and Marie.
Jean-Marc is retired now, but he worked as a teacher and a writer/translator. Marie is an acupuncturist living in Carleton-sur-mer, where I’ll be going. She said that many people know her in that town and I should ask Sophie, who works at the Camping de Carleton-sur-Mer, if I need a place to stay in case the campground is full. Since Marie will be in Paspébiac for two more days she couldn’t host me at her house in Carleton-sur-Mer.
I had a great time chatting with Jean-Marc and Marie by the fire pit and into the sunset. I went to bed soon after, having ridden 45.1 miles that day.
This morning, I woke up at 4:45 from the chirping of the song sparrows. After packing up my things, I’m now writing my blog post in the community building. I will get some breakfast in town before starting my ride to Carleton-sur-Mer.
