Day 51: Trois-Rivières to Deschambault
Yesterday’s ride from Trois-Rivières to Deschambault was 40.2 miles. Anas and I didn’t take long rest breaks and we cycled the whole morning to avoid the heatwave in the afternoon.
We passed by more farm fields and saw the St. Lawrence River on our right once in a while. I was glad the road has been flat for the past few days so it was a joy to ride.
Around noon, we arrived at Deschambault. There was only one general store there called Magasin Général Deschambault and their prices were expensive. I bought some hamburger buns and a package of bologna. Anas bought a container of hummus. We ended up making our own lunch at a picnic table not too far.
Our Warmshowers host, Eléa, said that we can arrive at her place. So at 2 PM, we went to her house.
Eléa is a math teacher and the school year will end soon. She was very outgoing. Anas and I appreciated her hospitality and we were glad that we can stay indoors to avoid the heat. Later, Eléa left with a friend to go paddle-boarding while Anas and I relaxed.
After I took a shower, Anas wanted to buy more eggs so we walked to Magasin Général Deschambault. This time, I bought some gummy candies, brie cheese, and two ice cream sandwiches to cool us off.
The heat was so intense that I ended up taking a nap. When Eléa came back, I cooked some hotdogs and heated the buns for dinner for the three of us.
I went to bed around 8:30 PM and woke up at 6 AM. Today will be the last riding day for Anas and I as we head for Quebec City. I hope we can avoid the heat by doing most of our riding early again.
