I didn’t realize this about Buffalo before coming here, but the city has some fantastic architecture, second only to Chicago. I ended up riding my bike to see all the major architecture sites.
I first visited the Martin House, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I had been there before in 2015. Then I stopped by the Buffalo History Museum. It has a Japanese garden in the back, which was nice. I passed by Buffalo AKG Art Museum before arriving at Richardson Olmsted Campus.
The Richardson Olmsted Campus is now a hotel. Before that it was a hospital. Then I cycled all the way to downtown Buffalo and stopped by The Electric Tower before going into Buffalo City Hall, where it has an observation deck on the 28th floor. It started to rain so I took refuge in the building for a while before getting lunch at Moura’s New York Style Deli. I then took photos of the Liberty Building and the Guaranty Building before I cycled all the way down to Buffalo Harbor State Park.
I thought there would be some sign at the state park indicating the end point of the Empire State Trail, but there wasn’t anything except for a parking lot. Disappointed, I rode my bike back uptown and stopped by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fontana Boathouse before riding in the rain back to Michael and Wendy’s house.
After changing to some dry clothes, I bid farewell to Wendy and rode only about 9 minutes to Gina’s house. Today was supposed to be a rest day, but I ended up riding my bike for 30.4 miles around Buffalo.
I waited for Gina for about an hour in the backyard before she came home. Gina works as an elementary school teacher and a tutor. She made some excellent mushroom, broccoli, and cheese soup. We chatted about traveling and the conflicting desire to be safe, secure, and comfortable, as in a home.
After dinner, I helped Gina put together a sauna in her basement. I ended up going to bed before the sunset. This morning, I woke up at 5:15. I will be leaving the US and entering Canada today.
